Last night I resisted the urge to beat a man with my shoe after he groped me in front of my friends. I blamed it on sudden temporary insanity, spared him his life, and encouraged him to pray to God. I swear a chip is beginning to form on my shoulder as I have had several encounters with shady Georgian men. Take for example Soso. Yes people that is his name. I’d rejected his offer to dance which was some how was code for I like you please stalk me. This (insert preferred word) followed me and my friends to our table and questioned me as to why I didn’t dance. When I replied because I didn’t want to he stood up and hit me. Realizing I was in a very public place and not wanting to cause a scene I calmly stood up and screamed what the hell man? Again resisting the urge to beat him with my shoe. For some reason my loud tone and clearly defensive demeanor became code for I really really really like you please come back! He turns around to kiss me. I spent the latter half of night running away from him and shouting at him every time he attempted to touch me. Whenever I meet a Georgian man, before any names are swapped, before any words are spoken I say: I’m not dating or married and no I will not have sex with you! My horns are beginning to appear people.

Yes! Be careful. I have seen that in other men who come here from over seas, African, Nigerian and Arabian. I'm surprised the screams didn't alert others 😦 smh

LOL…Rhonda you really need to tell people that this is 30% truth and 60% fiction because you are giving people the wrong idea. I was there lol—I think I know what happened. You cant combine 5 different situations (all on different days) into one and call it the truth but to each their own. 🙂

Damn, I've red your posts… seems like fantasy… cant say that it's not true… coz it can be.. but it's a shame… I always say – if you have problem, look for them in you… but I dunno what happened there… I'm Georgian too, and would like to ask you – Where/Why did you find that guyz? Just try to choose places and people you are surrounded with better.

Interesting I wonder if you are Georgian…Many of my foreign friends have similar stories…men trying to buy them. Guys trying to grope them and or molest them. I guess it's the wonderful perk of being a foreigner in Georgia…

My God, if this is true, it's a shame!Of course such things never happened around me and if it happened, it would be ended with police or more likely with a quarrel with other Georgian guys. If what you're saying is not exaggerated , than I guess some crazy guy took you for a wrong kind of foreigner.pls take into mind the advice above and choose the right people and right places where to go, don't choose very cheap places. Such places were dangerous even in Paris. Probably everywhere, low educated people take foreigners as potential sex-partners ….

Rhonda,First of all – sorry for your suffering.Secondly, whoever put you in a village in Georgia should be fired on spot…Well, you've already started understand something, but main thing to remember is following: most people in Georgia (before arrival of you and your colleagues from TLG) have never being exposed to Westerners on daily bases. And this is the source of a lot of problems.Considerable number of villagers in Georgia have visited the capital (Tbilisi) only once or twice in their life. So… for them seeing a black girl in their neighborhood would have the same effect as if aliens landed on Manhattan (however I have a feeling that New Yorkers would have much less problems dealing with aliens) – they've never seen a black person outside of TV. I do not really know what to say more, because people have already commented. Just one thing – it was really touching that you've said that you are in Georgia for kids. And this is the most important mission. One day yours and other TLG folks contribution in Georgian society will be well recognized. Once again – good luck. I truly mean it.

Rhonda: I'm an American woman and have visited Georgia several times. I'm sorry this happened to you. Get your GE friends to teach you some swear words in Georgian and don't hesitate to use them if ARA ARA ARA (no no no) shouted doesn't work. Don't be afraid to hit the offending man quickly and hard if shouting doesn't work. You cannot be hesitant to make your disgust known loudly and rapidly. To some Georgians No means maybe and maybe means yes. Now, I'm glad to say this never happened to me. But I don't drink in bars.Lots of TV/Movies have portrayed Western women as easily sexually available and since sex isn't always readily available to most young Georgian men, some of the poorly behaved ones will jump at the chance to jump on you, just in the outside chance you might go for it like they've seen on TV. Also remember that demographically, there are more GE young men than young women, so the men have to be very aggressive to get a woman.All this combines to the unfortunate incident you experienced.Most Georgian men are extremely polite and have excellent manners. This is why I married one.

I am georgian and things like that have happened to me. i don’t know why are people surprised.

To the Georgians telling her to call the police: you are assuming she knows enough Georgian to call them, talk about the situation and tell them where she is. Most foreigners don’t, and even for those of us who do have some working knowledge of the language, conversation is that much harder on a telephone.
As for Rhonda, if you go out drinking, especially in the village, you need to make sure you have a guy friend with you who will back you up. There are plenty of good and trustworthy Georgian men and expats who know how to deal with those sort of guys. Also, don’t be afraid to lie to men and tell them you have a boyfriend and/or husband. And tell them he lives in Georgia.
